Maruthuvar, Pandithar, Vaithiyar, Nasuvar, Pariyari or Parubagari who are known as Ambattan, meaning Am means five, Battan means title, Ambattan is a person with five distinctive or career titles, and their women is known as Maruthuvachi, meaning a 'doctor' nothing more. This was in a pre-colonial, pre-British eras, where the Dravidic race or the Dravidian people was ruled and led by one simple philosophy:
"ONDRE KULAM ORUWANE THEIVAM" Meaning "One Cast One God"
These group of castes are know with various names and titles distinctions in various parts of India. Ezhavathy, Nair, Manggalvaad, etc.
Maruthuvar means ONE WHO PREPARES MARUNTHU (MEDICINES), Today Known As Pharmacies,Or Medicinal Doctor.
1. Pandithar MEANING A KNOWLEDGEABLE PERSON, PERSON OF WISDOM, A GREAT TEACHER AND THE LIKE.
2. Vaithiyar MEANING A MEDICINAL DOCTOR, (IN ORTODOX INDIA)
3. Nasuvar A PERSON WHO PLAY PIPER OR MUSICAL INSTRUMENT.
4. Pariyari or parubagari MEANING A PERSON WHO HELPS OR SAVES FROM CHARMS AND HARMS, THIS CASTE in the early Indian, were not hair cutters or barbers, as it was not a custom in those days for men to cut hair. Until the entry of the Aryan invasion of India.
5. When they were forced to cut hair, they would not work to cut hair even for Nambuthiri Brahmin in Kerala states, more-else for other caste such as Nadars, Pillai, Chetties, Reddis, Reddiars and to those who are considered of the same rank with these castes.
6. Maruthuvar and Pandithar are known as Priest Caste, of which they are a part of the solemnization of weddings, naming at birth and deaths.
