Amar belongs to the illustrious Gudivada family that delivered two generations of legislators and political leaders who enjoyed tremendous popularity among the local people. His father Sri. Gudivada Gurunadha Rao was highly reputed for his integrity, political acumen and the tremendous impact he had in the progress of Visakhapatnam and surrounding areas. His grandfather Sri. Gudivada Apanna, was an MLA known for his yeoman service to the local population.
Sri Gudivada Gurunadha Rao, his father shares a long history with Sri YS Rajasekhar Reddy. They had infinite compassion for the poor and devoted their entire life for the welfare of the poor and downtrodden. Both of them were legislators together in the state assembly between 1989-1993. They were also together as MPs in the twelfth Lok Sabha in 1998. Sri Gurunadha Rao was always an ardent admirer of Sri Rajasekhar Reddy. This was one of the factors that motivated him to join the YSR Congress Party recently.
A qualified engineer, while having multiple career options to pursue, Amar wanted to uphold the legacy of his father and joined politics at the young age of 21 years, and there has been no turning back since. Amar enjoys a great reputation as a dynamic young leader with mass appeal who is very dynamic and sensitive to the needs of his people, upholds the highest values of personal integrity and is known to leave no stone unturned to solve the problems of those who approach him.Early in his career, Amar also served as the youngest corporator at the age of 21, and won several accolades including the best corporator of the year award. He was also the youngest member of the District Planning commission at Visakhapatnam and is renowned for having made he improvements in Bus Rapid Transport system, underground drainages, roads, including innovations like the first of its kind digital classrooms.
He was always at the fore front of all movements to fight for the rights of the common man. He was one of the key leaders in Visakhaptanam district protesting against the separation of the state. He was on an indefinite fast for 3 days in 2009, protesting the Telangana declaration by the then home Minister P. Chidambaram and again went on an indefinite fast for 6 days in 2013 on the same issue. He was one of the only 2 members in Vizag to do an indefinite fast.
Several cases registered against him for protesting for the rights of the common man. He went to Jail for 3 days in 2012 in support of ex-gratis to be paid for an electrical worker's family who died on duty. He conducted a 256 km padayatra in the rural areas of Visakhapatnam as early as 2007 to identify and fight for the issues of the poor. This includes protests against issues like land occupation of the poor by the government, raising the height of the Babli dam etc. He also spent 4 days in the tribal areas of the Araku Valley protesting against Bauxite mining.
He's passionate about his constituency and the country and firmly believes that the future of this country lies in its youth who bring with them a fresh mindset of India not as a third world country but a great civilization looking to reclaim its status among the committee of nations. He is a firm believer that more young people with the right value system and energy should enter politics and make their presence felt and help the country achieve its potential.
For someone so young, Amar has many astute observations on how the future of the Visakhapatnam district can be shaped under the right leadership. Being populated by industrious and peace loving people and having rich cultural heritage dating over 200 years, rare natural resources, and a stunning coast line, the district has the potential to be among the fastest growing cities globally. In his view the possibilities are immense and range from dedicated petrochemical corridor, fisheries research centre, destination tourism, international logistics hub and so on. But for all this, the right leadership with focus, commitment and indefatigable energy is the order of the day. A gap he’s arduously trying to fill.
The people are longing for the return to power of one of the most illustrious and highly respected political families of Northern Andhra, and have huge expectations on Amar.
