The '''[https://ris.ripe.net Routing Information System (RIS)]''' is a global open distributed Internet data collection platform, collecting [[BGP]] data from hundreds of networks all over the Internet. The data collected allows network operators and researchers to better understand the state of the global Internet in terms of how networks are connected and packets are routed. RIS is operated by the [[RIPE NCC]].

==Technical details==

As of 1 Jan 2021, RIS consists of 21 remote route collectors (RRCs), which are servers distributed globally that collect information from BGP sessions that are established with routers in the networks that data is collected from. Interested Internet network operators can establish a BGP peering session with the RRC infrastructure, which will feed BGP data into the system. the RRCs deliver this data to a central location where the data is further processed into multiple outputs.

In addition to collecting BGP data RIS also operates BGP routing beacons.
