''Channichthys panticapaei'', the '''charcoal icefish''', is a species of [[Channichthyidae|crocodile icefish]] endemic to the [[Kerguelen Islands]] area in the Southern Ocean. This [[Demersal fish|demersal]] species is found at depths of 112-154 m(367-505 ft) and has long first to third dorsal fin spines. It is dark gray to uniformly blackish. It is [[Planktivore|planktivorous]] (plankton-eating) and reaches lengths of up to 40.2 cm TL(16 inches), with males generally being larger. This species is caught in bottom trawls and spawning probably takes place from June to July. <ref>Shandikov, G.A(1995). A new species of icefish, Channichthys pantipacaei sp. n. (Channichthydae, Notothenioidei) from the Kerguelen Islands(Antarctica). </ref>
