/e/ Mobile Operating System
/e/ is a free and open-source operating system for smartphones based on the Android mobile platform. It is developed on a fork<ref>https://ift.tt/2rbHyIR> of LineageOS. The Operating System is developed by the e.foundation<ref>https://ift.tt/2FLBYHi> led by Gaël Duval.

Background
In 2017 Gaël Duval, through a series of articles titled “Leaving Apple & Google: my / e / odyssey” (one<ref>https://ift.tt/2r8r6sL>, two<ref>https://ift.tt/2FOF4Kv>, three<ref>https://ift.tt/2r5ldwy) proposed the concept of an Operating System which would not have any user data spying applications or services. This was followed by a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign.

Development
The first beta mobile Minimum Viable Product (MVP) based on Lineage OS 14.1 was released on 12 September 2018<ref>https://ift.tt/2FMSMgT> with the source code<ref>https://ift.tt/2ri352J> available on Gitlab.

The second beta MVP based on Lineage OS 15.1 was released on November 22, 2018<ref>https://ift.tt/2FMqLWZ>.

Community
At present / e / development builds cover 49 devices and has an active user base of about one thousand users.
To interact with its users and provide software issue support, the /e/ team uses telegram channels and a web based community forum<ref>https://ift.tt/2r8n1VD> .
