'''The Secret White Party / Diner Secret en Blanc'''

An anonymous non-profit organization hosting parties such as the Secret White Party / diner secret en blanc<ref>Liquid error: wrong number of arguments (1 for 2)</ref>

Following decades of Parisian traditions, the anonymous organizers<ref></ref> are staging in Dubai an all-white dress code pic-nic and party popping up in a venue kept secret until the last minute since 2014 in Dubai<ref></ref>. Venues are always chosen to be unconventional for a private dinner party: in 2014, the first Dubai edition was held on the beach of Sofitel the Palm<ref></ref>, then a year later on the terrace of La Cantine<ref></ref> under Emirates towers, on the lawn of the Dubai Polo and Equestrian club<ref></ref> and on the stage of Dubai Opera.

Similar parties are staged wordwide (e.g Singapore<ref></ref>) following the footsteps of the Diner secret en Blanc in Paris<ref></ref>

'''What makes a Secret White Party unique?'''

There are white parties organized all over the planet, most of them are just night parties, some do include dining, few have a meaningful history or a pedigree and almost all of them are business ventures rather than the manifestation of an ''art de vivre''. The one common thing which characterizes them al is that there are an all-white attire gathering. Secret Parties have come across a similar history in the late 20th early 21st centuries. Yet there seems to be only one genuine branch of Secret White Parties.

'''''White parties confidentially started in the 70’s and 80’s and started spreading after 2005'''''

If we start with a little bit of history of white parties, in the 70’s hedonists and nightclub owners, as part of their themed parties started introducing white parties (Chuck Renslow in Chicago, in the Flamingo in NY), socialites started organising celebrity-only exclusive parties as well, such as Eddie Barclay in St-Tropez or as part of a fundraising like in Miami in the 80’. In the late 80’s, a new kind emerged with a White dinner in Paris where not only people were dressed in white, it was a free, invitation-only, picnic in a public place kept secret until the last moment. In the early 2000’s started some famous gay parties in Palm springs California and at the same time, a new kind of one off event appeared in the Netherlands with huge attendances (40.000+), called Sensation white.

The 2005-2015 decade marked a significant shift as the older generation was passing (e.g. the demise of Eddie Barclay and Chuck Renslow), we saw the rise in popularity of white parties which departed from their underground roots (celebrities, socialites, gay and techno) to become mainstream, large in numbers and spreading both socially and globally: Sensation white started touring the world, Diner en Blanc became a corporation licensing the event worldwide in cooperation with venues, large entertainment chains started organizing white parties (e.g. Nikki Beach) as well as every Tom, Dick and Harry nightclub or party promoter looking for a catchy yet easy theme.

'''''Secret Location parties also started in the 80’s and became mainstream around 2005 with rise of social media'''''

As far as pop-up secret parties are concerned the story is quite similar: in the late 80’s to avoid a severe clampdown on their music, Techno/ Rave / Free Party organizers had to keep the venue secret until the last minute to avoid authorities to shut them down and the principle was simple: keep the venue secret until the last moment and then gather enough people rapidly to make the party unstoppable. In a smaller scale, squat parties also became famous as a group of party goers would squat a building to party for 12 or 24 hours. In a less anarchist way, secret venue parties have long been organised among group of high net worth individuals who would ferry their guests to a surprise venue

By the early 2000’s those rave parties had become “Free” parties but actually ''bona fide'' festivals run as commercial ventures; squat ,then renamed pop-up, parties became by 2005 much easier to organise on a large scale thanks to social media (facebook) organizing huge and indiscriminate gatherings in public places or squats. As far as chic dining in secret venues, thanks to Instagram, “foodie influencers” started running secret venue events as a business in coordination with Restaurants and venues.

'''''The Diner Secret en Blanc / Secret White Party is still unique by its origins and most importantly its values'''''

In the original and liberated spirit of the 70’s and 80’s born in Europe and in the US, the secret white parties perpetuate an epicurean tradition based on 3 pillars and 3 values.

The first pillar is “Epicureans”: to gather a group of like-minded epicureans who love to enjoy earthly pleasures, and that is the second pillar ”a festive dinner” in an “exceptional place”, the third pillar.

The values upheld are clear: the first one is “secrecy” whereby the organisers do not seek publicity or the media limelight, the second one is “non-profit” as the organizers try to keep the event free or at the lowest possible cost and do not seek to make money over it, the third value is “co-optation” as guest are selected by existing guests and need to be co-opted: this ensures that the guests will share common spirit, efforts and pleasure.
