The European settler to the was John Eales who had two estates Berry Park and Duckenfield House both along Duckenfield Road<ref name=":0"></ref>. The area is known from breeding race horses<ref name=":0" />. The population is 108<ref name=":0" />.

John Eales was granted 2100 acres on the Hunter River and was assigned six [[Convicts in Australia|convicts]] <ref name=":1"></ref>.It was built out of [[Sydney sandstone]] with a plain verandah<ref>Liquid error: wrong number of arguments (given 1, expected 2)</ref>. In 1822 Eales purchased a property from Dr Moran<ref name=":1" /> . The property had 45 room and was two stories <ref name=":1" />I.n 1870s John Eales junior completed some extensions<ref name=":2">Liquid error: wrong number of arguments (given 1, expected 2)</ref>. The property was sold to [[BHP]] in 1916 which they demolished the property for building material in 1917<ref name=":2" />.
