By 1962 Amos was seen as a skilled prospect. He had a few losses and draws but most of his fights were wins.<ref></ref> In 1962 Amos lost to future heavyweight champion [[Ernie Terrell]]. He bounced back with a 1964 win over future contender [[Thad Spencer]], who was 22-2 before the fight. Amos lost to another notable name in 1966 against Johnny Persol, a ranked heavyweight by the end of the year.<ref></ref> The years 1967 and 1968 were full of big fights. He lost to European Champion [[Karl Mildenberger]], lost in a rematch against Thad Spencer, was bested by NYSAC title challenger [[Buster Mathis]] and lost to ex-heavyweight champion Sonny Liston. Amos retired after losses to [[Boone Kirkman]] and Terry Daniels.
