Asif Tariq Bhat ([[Urdu language|Urdu]]: آصؔف; 7 July 1998) is a Kashmiri Language Poet and short-story writer from Duderhama Ganderbal. == Personal Life ==
Bhat Asif was Born on 7th July 1998 to a Kashmiri Muslim Family of Duderhama Ganderbal. Asif was 6 years old when he heard his mother listening to a Kashmiri song written by Rehman Rahi, he started enquiring about the same and eventually his interest developed in poetry. In 2009, Asif wrote his first poem "Waqt(وقت)", which he shared at his school with his teachers. But his teachers teared that poem and threw that away. They ridiculed him for writing Kashmiri and even speaking Kashmiri. Asif felt humiliated and narrated the ordeal to his parents, they changed his school.
hailing from Ganderbal. Asif began to write poetry from a young age, drawing inspiration chiefly from nature. He's well-versed in Kashmiri Sufi literature, having read and memorized the works of prominent Sufi poets such as Sheikh ul Alam, Shams Fakeer, Mahmood Geámi, Lala Ded and Mehjoor. The primary themes of his poetry are mysticism, social behavior and conflict. Along with poetry Asif has written many short stories that has been published on various platforms. His recent short story "تمہِ رہ اوس رود پیوان" was highly appreciated not only by the local users but Kashmiri diaspora were also all praises for him. While talking to Asif about Kashmiri language, he quoted “I want my nation to be immortal in its identity.” Our youth need to liberate themselves from this ‘colonial hangover’ and feel proud of their own culture. Kashmiri language is our identity and we should respect our Mother tongue. It’s the need of the hour that we realized we’ll always be treated as adopters rather than natives when we try to imitate culture other than our own,” Asif added.
He found solace in writing as a child and gets frequently published in Sangarmall, the sole Kashmiri newspaper of the valley.
