At the age of 16, he fell in love with the wife of a Turkish Aga named Youssuf. Djioikely left him to die. He took the wife of the Aga and escaped to [[Salonica]]. There Djioikely embraced Islam, joined the Albanian irregulars and changed his name to Osman Arif after he was distinguished as a fighter by the local chiefs. One day he received an order to meet with a [[Muezzin|muezzin]] coming from Constantinople. Djioikely recognized him as the Aga that he had tried to kill earlier. After the meeting, he left for the mountains. Afterwards, the Aga realized that it was indeed Djioikely that he had met and searched for him. Djioikely did not want his new wife to return to the Aga and convinced her to swallow a poison killing her.
