== Education ==
He received his undergraduate degree from the [[University of Minnesota]] in 1928, at the age of 20. He was mentored by Dr. [[Barbara McClintock]] for three years at the [[University of Missouri]] where he did graduate work for three years. When McClintock moved to the [[Carnegie Mellon University|Carnegie Institute]] Brown transferred to the [[University of California, Davis|University of California at Davis]], where he received his PhD in genetics one year later, in 1942. <ref name=":0" />
