== Career ==
Born in [[Vorchdorf]] (Austria), Flotzinger graduated from the . From 1951 to 1958 he studied musicology at the [[University of Vienna]] with and Walter Graf.<ref>[https://ift.tt/2FvqNAl Walter Graf]</ref> In 1965 he received his doctorate and in 1969 his [[habilitation]] in Vienna on topics of [[early music]]. From 1971 to 1999 he was chairman of the institute for musicology of the [[University of Graz]] and from 1999 to 2006 chairman of the board of the at the [[Austrian Academy of Sciences]].

Flotzinger is co-editor of the three-volume ''Musikgeschichte Österreichs''<ref>[https://ift.tt/2HQiwIW ''Musikgeschichte Österreichs''] on WorldCat</ref> and editor of the five-volume ''[[Oesterreichisches Musiklexikon]]'' and member of the [[Academia Europaea]] in London as well as corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences in Vienna, Zagreb and Ljubljana.
