Evangelos Venetis (Greek: Ευάγγελος Βενέτης) (born in 1977 in Athens, Greece) is the coordinator of the Middle East Research Program of the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) and a specialist in migration and Islam at the Stavros Niarchos Center for Hellenic Studies in Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada.
He studied history (1999) and postgraduate studies in the same field at the University of Ioannina (2001). He received his Ph.D. in Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Edinburgh, UK (2006). He taught Islamic and Middle Eastern studies as a lecturer for four years at the Arabic, Persian, and Turkish Department at the University of Leiden, the Netherlands. His research interests refer to the Islamic world, migration and the Greek diaspora in the Middle East. He has written books and articles on various topics of the Middle East in the modern and medieval period.
He is the Director of the Society for Hellenic and Iranian Studies.
His publications include the following titles: The Persian Alexander: An Annotated Translation (London, IB Tauris, 2018); along with Dr M.S. Alinia, the first Greek-Persian and Persian-Greek dictionary (Athens, 2017,) Greeks in Modern Iran, English translation (Poreia Publications, Athens: 2015); Dr. Saleh Jallad's, The Pedagogy of Arab Leadership (Athens, 2017).
