Madden NFL 21 is an upcoming American football video game based on the National Football League (NFL), being developed by EA Tiburon and will be published by Electronic Arts. The upcoming installment in the long-running Madden NFL series, the game will most likely be released on 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows in August 2020. It will feature Baltimore Ravens quarterback LaMar Jackson as the cover athlete. Jackson revealed he will be the cover star for the game on April 21, 2020, without EA's consent.
Development
Baltimore Ravens quarterback and 2019 NFL MVP LaMar Jackson revealed he would be the cover athlete on April 21, 2020, before the games official announcement. EA Sports confirmed this, however did not give him their consent to announce it just yet. Jackson will be the second Ravens player to be cover athlete of a Madden game, Ray Lewis being the first on Madden NFL 2005 in 2004.
The soundtrack has yet to be announced.
Although unconfirmed, Brandon Gaudin and Charles Davis will almost certainly be the in-game announcers, along with Jonathan Coachman as the studio halftime and pregame host.
Release
The Release Date has not been announced, but speculation has already been going around. Last year, EA released Madden NFL 20 on August 2, 2020, therefore Madden 21 will likely be released at some point in early August. In the past (including last year), the game has been available 3 days ahead of the time if purchasing the "better" and more expensive versions of the game. Last year, Madden 20 was announced on April 25, 2019. As of April 21, there is no announcement yet. But it has been confirmed due to LaMar Jackson leaking that he is the cover star, along with EA Sports confirming his leak. April 25 last year, was also the day of the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. In which it was announced during the pre-draft coverage along with last years cover star Patrick Mahomes. This years draft takes place on April 23, perhaps when EA Sports plans on officially announcing Madden 20.
Platform
EA has released all their titles on the Xbox One and 4 consoles since their release in November 2013. Madden 21 will likely be release on these consoles again. However, the next-generation consoles (Xbox Series X and 5) are set to come out holiday season. In 2013, Madden NFL 25th anniversary (14) released on August 27 before the releases of the next-gen consoles. It became available for both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 upon their release in November. Therefore, Madden 21 will likely move up to the next consoles when they come out, unless it is deemed too late and they wait an extra year. EA Sports has also consistently released their games on PC, and will likely keep that trend moving as well.
