List of animated series with LGBT characters: 2000-04

Historyday01:

The depiction of LGBT characters in animated series 2000-2004 increased from the previous decade. In 2000, Queer Duck premiered, with by Simpsons and The Critic producer Mike Reiss hoping it would do something "good for the gay audience," with the show becoming the first animated TV series to have homosexuality as a predominant theme. While LGBTQ characters also appeared in The Fairly OddParents, Futurama, Family Guy, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, The Venture Bros., and The Simpsons, while one show stood above the others. In the New Zealand animation, bro'Town, one of the primary characters, Brother Ken is fa'afafine, a Samoan concept for a third gender, meaning he is born biologically male but is raised and sees themself as female. Because the concept does not readily translate, when the series was broadcast on Adult Swim Latin America, a decision was made not to translate Samoan words and just present them as part of the "cultural journey".
