Tiversa

Michepman: creating article on Tiversa

Tiversa is an American cybersecurity firm headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was founded by a retired chiropractor and real estate entrepreneur named Robert Boback in 2004. The company specialized in trawling the deep web, investigating peer to peer networks, and helping businesses counteract data breaches and other cybersecurity risks. Its main product was EagleVision X1, a piece of software that monitored the deep web for sensitive data.

History
Before entering the cybersecurity field, Boback was a chiropractor and real estate entrepreneur. He started Tiversa in 2004 as a two-person shop. Tiversa quickly obtained a high-profile board of advisers, including Maynard Webb (former eBay executive and chairman of Yahoo), Howard Schmidt (Obama-era cybersecurity chief), and Wesley Clark (former Supreme Allied Commander of NATO).

Marine One hack
In 2009, Tiversa claimed to have discovered a major security breach involving then-President Barack Obama's helicopter, Marine One. The breach involved the leak to Iran of sensitive procurement information about the helicopter as well as the helicopter's blueprints. According to Tiversa's CEO, the breach was caused by a defense contractor employee who downloaded a peer-to-peer file-sharing client onto a laptop which contianed the sensitive materials. This discovery made national news, but a whistleblower later claimed that the Iranian hack was actually fabricated by Tiversa employees. Boback, the CEO of Tiversa, denied the allegation.

LabMD scandal
In May 2008, a Tiversa executive contacted LabMD (a urology testing laboratory) claiming to have discovered evidence of a major data breach and offered to sell LabMD monitoring services to counteract the breach. When the head of LabMD declined to purchase the monitoring services, Tiversa allegedly leaked information about the breach to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, which pursues cybersecurity issues. The FTC launched a probe into LabMD's practices under section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act in 2010, which evolved into a formal administrative complaint in 2013. LabMD's revenues fell and the business itself collapsed in 2014 due to the costs of litigating the case. However, in November 2014, an administrative law judge threw out the complaint against LabMD, citing a lack of unreliability in the evidence provided by Tiversa to the FTC. This stemmed from a whistleblower complaint by a former Tiversa employee, Richard Wallace, who claimed that he was the one who breached LabMD's systems and that LabMD's data was never leaked outside of its network. He also alleged that Tiversa was responsible for the FTC complaint against LabMD, which was made in retaliation for LabMD's refusal to purchase Tiversa's monitoring services.

Federal probe
Following Wallace's whistleblower complaint, the federal government began probing Tiversa under allegations that it deliberately provided false information about data breaches to the FTC to retaliate against companies that declined to purchase its data protection services. The Department of Justice lauched a criminal investigation in 2015 following the whistleblower complaint and the FTC also launched a probe of whether Tiversa had lied about any among the 80 companies that it had reported to them.

Bayku Noyon

Magyar from Ural: ←Created page with Bayku-noyon (Mayki-biy, Bayki) - emir and temnik in the army of Jochi Khan, lived in 13 century AD. According to Rashid ad-Din, he came from the ...'

Bayku-noyon (Mayki-biy, Bayki) - emir and temnik in the army of Jochi Khan, lived in 13 century AD. According to Rashid ad-Din, he came from the Wusun tribe (Usun, Ushin, Khushin, Uysun).

Bayku-noyon in the work of Rashid ad-Din "Collection of chronicles"
According to Rashid ad-Din, the Bayku Noyon with 10,000 army -oldwas from the Khushin (Wusun) tribe. Baiku Noyon led the army of the right hand.

Genghis Khan gave Bayku-noyon and three emirs - the 4 thousand warrios - to the son of Jochi to conquer the western lands. Most of the troops of Toktai and Bayan are the descendants of those four thousand of Bayku-noyon. The remaining 6 thousand were manned from Madjars (Magyars), Circassians and Kipchaks, all together they made up one ten thousandth army (Tumen).

During the civil strife among distant and close relatives [ala wa inini] - part of the Tumen of Bayku-noyon - was to go into the possession of Toktai and Bayan.

Two Khushin leaders: Mayki-biy (Hushitai-Bayku) and Hushitay
Rashid ad-Din speaks of two emirs from the Khushin (Wusun) - Hushitay and Hushitay-Bayku (Mayki-biy), each of whom entered with his thousand Khushin (Wusun) - into one common Tumen of Juchi Khan. Hushitai-Baiku literally means “Bayku with Khushin” (husin-tai baiqu - in Mongolian), where 'tai / dai' is an indicator of the joint case in the Mongolian language, which also means possession of something). Hushitai is considered to be the relative of the Boorchu Noyon Arulats. Most likely, the Sari-Wusun of Kazakhs come from Khushitay, and the Bashkirian Tabin from other Hushitay - Bayku (Mayki-Biy).

Y-DNA analysis
Bashkirs
The DNA test revealed among the descendants of the tribal leaders Irekte, Kalser-Tabin, Bayki-Suun, who consider themselves the descendants of Mayki-biy, a common ancestor who lived in the 13th century AD, belonging to the haplogroup R1a, subclade R1a-Y5977.

Kazakhs
DNA test of some Kazakh Tabyn and Uysun revealed haplogroups C3 and J2a1 in them.

Ethnogenesis of Wusun and Tabin based on genetic data
The belonging of the Bashkirian Tabin and Irekte to the haplogroup R1a, and the Kazakh Tabin and Wusun to the haplogroups C3 and J2a1 - confirmed the different ethnic composition of the medieval Wusun. Some of the Wusun clans such as Qaratabin, Karakalpaks were R1a, other clans - Saritabin and Sariuysun were from J2 and C3. A similar division into black (Kara) and yellow clans (Sari) was among the ancient Turgeshs.

Miniature Altarpiece (OA 5612)

Theramin: new article

The Miniature Altarpiece (OA 5612) is a Gothic boxwood miniature in the form of a small altarpiece, made in the Netherlands c.1520-1530, probably by the workshop of Adam Dircksz (also known as Adam Theodrici). It has been held by the Louvre (catalogue number OA 5612) since 1901, but is not on public display. It was exhibited with other boxwood miniatures at the Art Gallery of Ontario in November 2016 - January 2017.

The object is made from intricately carved boxwood. It comprises two main registers of carvings depicting Biblical scenes, each with door that opens to reveal an interior triptych with further carvings of Biblical scenes, all standing on predella supported by tetramorph carvings of symbols representing the Four Evangelists (ox, eagle, angel, lion) on a wooden plinth. With the doors closed, the outside surfaces of the doors are elaborately decorated in Gothic style, with the upper pair of doors depicting Jesus at the Mount of Olives on the left, and the Kiss of Judas on the right, while the lower doors depict the Holy Kinship on the left, and Mary with her parents St Anne and St Joachim and a lamb on the right.

With the doors opened, it measures . Inside, the upper register has a central carving of the Crucifixion with donor portraits with coats of arms and patron saints, flanked by the Christ Carrying the Cross on the left wing and the Descent from the Cross and Resurrection on the right wing. The lower register has a central carving of the Nativity of Jesus, with the Annunciation to the Shepherds in the background and the Adoration of the Shepherds on the lower left side, flanked to the left by an Annunciation, with Anne and Joachim at the Golden Gate in the background, and by the Adoration of the Magi to the right.

The rear surface is plain and undecorated, suggesting it was intended to be displayed against a wall. The original tooled and stamped leather case survives, decorated with the Tree of Jesse, and bearing an inscription down the sides: "<small>O MATER DEI MEMENTO / MEI RIENS SANS PAIN</small>" (Latin: "O mother of God, remember me"; and French: "nothing without bread").

It was acquired by the Louvre in 1901 from the estate of Baron ; previously, it was in the collection of Edward Fitzalan-Howard, 1st Baron Howard of Glossop.

Saunders-Roe Queen

Davepoth: Initial translation of French Wikipedia article

The Saunders-Roe P.192 Queen was a British jet-powered seaplane project designed by Saunders-Roe after the Second World War. It was intended for the carriage of passengers on intercontinental flights, especially between Great Britain and Australia. No prototype was built because of a lack of funding.

Design
Even before the Second World War, the British aircraft manufacturer Saunders-Roe (often known as Saro) had considered the construction of seaplanes for the transatlantic service. In 1939 the firm planned a machine of 85 to 90 tons, but the plans were curtailed by the start of the war. Resumed in 1943, the study resulted in a design of 150 tons, which ultimately became the Saunders-Roe Princess, of which only three examples were manufactured.

Despite this failure, Saro was contacted by J. Dundas Meenan, consulting engineer with Peninsular & Oriental (P & O) shipping company, who was interested in a plane that could carry at least 1,000 passengers under the conditions of comfort of a transatlantic ocean liner. Saro then proposed project P.192, a 670-ton seaplane powered by 24 Rolls-Royce RB.80 Conway jet engines with 8,400 kg of thrust each. The aircraft was designed to have flown at a cruising speed of 720 km / h and an altitude between 9,000 and 12,000 meters. Its range would have been 3,400 kilometers. The route between London and Sydney had already been planned, via Cairo, Karachi, Calcutta, Singapore and Darwin (Australia).

The fuselage would have been divided into 5 decks with the passengers divided into compartments of 6 places with convertible seats in berths for the night, in a similar fashion to railway carriages. First class passengers would have had their own bars, dining rooms and washrooms. An improved galley would have served all of the decks by freight elevators. The crew was to have consisted of 7 technical flight crews with their own rest quarters, and 40 cabin crew, as well as a steward as on a liner.

The engines were installed very far from the hull to avoid spray on takeoff. They would have been supplied with air by two sets of air inlets; one set above the wing when the aircraft was on the water, and another in the leading edge during the flight. Marine rudders would have facilitated maneuvers on the water. Neither P & O nor the British taxpayer were willing to finance such a project, it did not go beyond the stage of the drawing board.

Licinia (1st-century BC vestal)

Aciram:

Licinia (flourished 1st&nbsp;century BC), was a Roman vestal virgin. She became known in history for the case against her for incest with her cousin Marcus Licinius Crassus, who alledgedly attempted to frame her for breaking her vow of chastity in order to aquire her property.

Licinia belonged to a prominent family. She became a Vestal in 85 BC, and remained a Vestal until 61. She was the cousin of "triumvir" Marcus Licinius Crassus. Their close relationship gave rise to rumors. Licinia was eventually publicly accused of having broken her vow of chastity by incest with her cousin after an occasion in which she had been closeted alone with him. Licinia refuted the charge by stating that the man in question was her cousin and that they had been alone only to discuss the purchase or sale of some of her property. Her defense was succesfull and she was freed from charges.

Plutarch described the case:
:"And yet when he was further on in years, he was accused of criminal intimacy with Licinia, one of the Vestal virgins and Licinia was formally prosecuted by a certain Plotius. Now Licinia was the owner of a pleasant villa in the suburbs which Crassus wished to get at a low price, and it was for this reason that he was forever hovering about the woman and paying his court to her, until he fell under the abominable suspicion. And in a way it was his avarice that absolved him from the charge of corrupting the Vestal, and he was acquitted by the judges. But he did not let Licinia go until he had acquired her property."

Waiting for the Hour

Theramin: new article

Watch Meeting—Dec. 31st 1862—Waiting for the Hour is an 1863 painting by the US artist William Tolman Carlton. The location of the original painting is not known, but a different version, possibly a study, is displayed in the Lincoln Bedroom at the White House.

Watch meetings originated as nighttime religious services of the Methodist Church. The painting depicts a watch meeting or vigil in the dark interior of a wood cabin, with a group of enslaved black men, women and children are covertly gathered on December 31, 1862, around a pulpit made from U.S. Sanitary Commission crates. An older black man stands with a book and a large pocket watch with an anchor at the end of its chain, a symbol of hope. To his right sits a white woman holding a black baby. The man and woman may be intended to resemble Harriet Beecher Stowe and Uncle Tom. Several other women are sitting or kneeling in prayer, and one has prostrated herself. They are all waiting in expectation for the Emancipation Proclamation to be issued by the U.S. President Abraham Lincoln the following day, concerned to make sure that the President carries through with the preliminary proclamation that he published on September 22, 1862.

To the left, in the doorway, a black person is holding the U.S. flag draped over their arms. Outside, an illuminated cross can be seen in the night sky. A banjo hangs on the wall. To the right of the painting, a slave in a neck collar stands holding a torch aloft before a copy of the proclamation pasted to the wall, which reads "Proclamation / 1st Jan. / For ever free / Slave". At the bottom, the title of the work is written out on the links of a metal chain.

The abolitionist William Lloyd Garrison wrote in a letter to Lincoln on January 21, 1865 that it was "an admirable painting" which abolitionist donors in Boston had contributed "upwards of five hundred dollars" to give as a gift to Lincoln. The original version of the painting disappeared after Lincoln's death, possibly removed by his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln. A different version, possibly a study, was found at an antiques shop in New York City in 1975, and it was presented to the White House by the Republican Party in 1976, to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence in 1776. It is displayed in the Lincoln Bedroom at the White House.

The painting was widely spread by copies on engraved copies on cartes de visite, in which the details are clearer than the known painted version held by the White House.

It stands in the Piazza della Vittoria, in the centre of Formia, a town on the coast of the Province of Latina beside the Tyrrhenian Sea, about southeast of Rome and northwest of Naples

The high structure comprises a monumental bronze statue mounted on a tall white marble pedestal, standing on a plinth with two steps. The bronze statue entitled Sacraficio depicts a soldier, larger then life size, wearing an Adrian helmet, and trousers with puttees and boots, but bare-chested, standing with both arms raised, as if offering himself in sacrifice. The pedestal has a carved decorative frieze around its top edge, and the front has a carving of a female figure bearing a palm frond and holding a laurel branch over a dedicatory inscription "<small>AI CADUTI / PER LA INDIPENDENZA E LA GRANDEZZA DELLA PATRIA // FORMIA / ORGOGLIOSA E RICCONOSCENTE</small>" ("To the fallen / for the independence and greatness of the fatherland // Formia / proud and recognising").

On the rear are the inscriptions "<small>DORA OHLFSEN / SCULTRICE / 1924</small>" and two lines from the 1818 poem All'Italia ("To Italy") by the poet Giacomo Leopardi: "<small>ALMA TERRA NATIA, / LA VITA CHE MI DESTI ECCO TI RENDO</small>" ("Dear land of my birth, / The life you gave to me here I give back."). The sides are inscribed with the names of 120 war dead from Formia, killed in the First World War and earlier conflicts, including the Battle of Lissa (1866), the Battle of Adwa (1896), and the Italo-Turkish War (1911-12)

The Australian sculptor Dora Ohlfsen-Bagge (1869-1948) received a commission from the Italian government to create the sculpture around 1923, reportedly due to her friendship with Duke (1874-1939). It is claimed that she was the only woman in Italy and the only non-Italian to have been awarded such a commission. She first completed a plaster model, which was then cast in bronze, reportedly using bronze from captured guns, and completed around February 1925. The model for the bronze statue may have be Fulco's son Luigi Tosti di Valminuta (1871-1958).

The memorial was unveiled on Sunday 18 July 1926, at a ceremony attended by the Italian government minister , Marshal Armando Diaz, Admirals and ,
the Archbishop of Gaeta<!--who? vacant after Pasquale Berardi resigned in May 1925 to became to Titular Archbishop of Nacolia, until Dionigio Casaroli was appointed in August 1926-->,
<!-- would like a better source: the Duke Tosti di Valminuta, Princess Anne of Orléans (soon to marry the Prince Amedeo, Duke of Apulia, later Duke of Aosta),-->
war veterans, and a large crowd of spectators. An Italian navy vessel in the harbour fired a salute. The strong masculine sculpture was considered a fitting commemorative work by the Fascist government of Benito Mussolini.

There was suggestion that the statue should be removed in the Second World War, so the bronze could be reused in the war effort, as despite the work's historical and patriotic value, it was said to have little artistic value. In the event, the memorial remained in place. It was restored in 2008.

Adoration of the Magi (Gothic boxwood altarpiece)

Theramin: new article

The Adoration of the Magi altarpiece is a small Gothic boxwood miniature, made in the Netherlands c.1500-1530 by the workshop of Adam Dircksz (also known as Adam Theodrici). It is held by Wallace Collection, which describes it as "one of the most important works from the mysterious workshop of Adam Dircksz".

The object is made from intricately carved boxwood, and measures . It has four main elements, each elaborately decorated in Gothic style. The main body (corpus) has two doors that open to reveal three New Testament scenes, creating a triptych sculpture: a central depiction of the Adoration of the Magi; the Nativity of Jesus on the left wing, with the Annunciation to the Shepherds in the background; and a scene combining the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple, the Flight into Egypt, and the Massacre of the Innocents on the right wing. With the doors are closed, the exterior surfaces of the corpus are decorated with Old Testament scenes: the main body shows Abraham and the Angels, with the drunkenness of Noah and the building of the Noah's Ark on the left wing, and Jacob's dream on the right wing.

The corpus is surmounted by a spire with foliate decoration on four levels, and it is supported by a column decorated with more Old Testament scenes: the Temptation of Adam, the Expulsion from the Garden of Eden, Adam Digging and Eve Spinning, and Cain and Abel. The column stands on a base decorated with scenes from Genesis, showing the creation of the animals, the creation of Adam, and the creation of Eve.

The altarpiece bears a number of Latin inscriptions, quoting or inspired by passages in the Bible.
At the front of the base, below the creation of Adam, is the inscription: "FACIA[MVS] ٠ HO[M]I[N]E(M) ٠ AD ٠ [IMA]GINE[M]", taken from Genesis 1:26 ("Let us make man in our image and likeness".
Below the creation of the animals is: "CRESCITE ٠ ET ٠ MVLTIPLICAM" (Genesis 1:22: "increase and multiply"); and below the creation of Eve is: "PER ٠ H[OMO] ٠ ADHEREB[IT] ٠ VXOR[I] ٠ SV[AE]" ("man embraces his wife").
On the outside of the right wing is: "NOE ٠ CUM ٠ PLATASSET ٠ VINE[A]M ٠ BIBENS ٠ DE ٠ VINO ٠ IN[E]BRIATUS" (Genesis 9:20-21 "When Noah drank some of its wine, he became drunk"); on the outside of the main body: "TRES ٠ VIDIT ٠ ET٠ VNVM ٠ ADORAVIT" (Genesis 18:2 "He sees three and worships one"); and on the outside of the left wing: "IN ٠ BACVLO ٠ MEO ٠ T[R]ANSIVI ٠ IORDANEM ٠ ET ٠ CUM ٠ TRIBUS ٠ TURMIS ٠ REFERT" (Genesis 32:10: "I had only my staff when I crossed this Jordan, but now I have become two camps.")

Further inscriptions on the triptych sculpture inside the corpus are revealed by opening the doors. On the right wing: "TVAM IPSIVS A[N]I[M]AM PERTRANSIET"" (Luke 2:35: "your own soul will be pierced"); on the cenral piece: "VIDEANTES STELLAM MAGI" (Matthew 2:10: "Seeing the star, the wise men"); and on the left wing: "ET TV BETHLE[H]E[M] IVDA / NICLAES" (Matthew 2:6: "And you Bethlehem in the land of Judah / Nicholas"). It has been suggested that the inclusion of St Nicholas and the name "Niclaes" may indicate the first name of the person who commissioned the altarpiece.

It was created in the Netherlands in the early 16th century, and intended for personal devotional use by a wealthy collector. It was acquired by Sir Richard Wallace from the art dealer Charles Mannheim in Paris in October 1871.

A similar but less ornate boxwood triptych is held by the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Others are held by the Statens Museum for Kunst in Copenhagen, the Louvre in Paris, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art; an unusual example with Renaissance and Italianate elements is held by the British Museum.

In the 1990s, many garlic fields the company had in the Gilroy area were affected with garlic white rot, making further garlic production there impossible.

In 1993, company production reached 100 million pounds of garlic. Facing competition from low priced garlic imported from China, company production fell significantly over the next decade.
