'''Beverly Kelley''' was the first woman to command a [[United States Coast Guard Cutter|Coast Guard cutter]], a 95-foot patrol boat named ''Cape Newagen'' in April 1979.<ref></ref> In 1996, she was also the first woman to command a medium entrance cutter, ''The Northland.''<ref name=":0"></ref><ref name=":1"></ref> In 2000, she also became commander of a high endurance cutter, the ''Boutwell'', and made history as the first woman ever to do so.<ref name=":0" />

Kelley graduated from the Coast Guard's [[Officer Candidate School (United States Navy)|Officer Candidate School]] in 1976.<ref name=":1" />
