Lilian Steichen

[[Lilian Steichen]] Sandburg (1883-1977) was born of immigrant parents from [[Luxembourg]]. She spent many years growing up on their family farm in [[Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin]]. Her brother [[Edward Steichen]] was a famous photographer. She married famous writer [[Carl Sandburg]] in 1908 in [[Milwaukee, Wisconsin]] after meeting at the Wisconsin Social Democratic Party. Together, they had three daughters, Margaret, Helga and Janet. Their first daughter, Margaret, was born in 1911 in [[Milwaukee, WI]].

While Lilian was involved in politics, she was also a homemaker, who raised animals such as goats and chickens to support the family. She helped review many of Carl’s works including the “Rootabaga Stories.” She died in 1977. <ref> https://ift.tt/3cetQtR </ref>
