Praxidicae: AFC draft (via script)

Jan Gerritze Bantjes was born in Graaf Reinet Tues. 8th July 1817, the third child of Bernard Louis Bantjes (B. 20 July 1788) and Isabella Johanna Swanepoel. Jan Gerritze was baptised at the N.G.Kerk in Graaf Reniet 6 Oct.1817. Their other children included Martha Sibella, Racheal Hilletje, Anna Francina, Hendrik Jacobus and Pieter Andrias. Jan Gerritze grew up in the Nieuwveld district of the farming town Graaf Reinet surrounded by the impressive Svartberg mountains of the Little Karoo. Andries Pretorius was also from Graaf Reinet and Jan Bantjes was a well established comrade. Graaf Reinet was founded by the VOC in 1786.
Jan G. Bantjes took his last three years of his education at the Freemasons college in Grahamstown. Fluent in both Dutch and English, spoken and written, he was often called upon at Graaf Reinet when documents in English needed translation or letters had to be correctly edited. Thus his reputation as an unofficial clerk in town matters were well established at both Graaf Reinet and Grahamstown.
