Lawson Insley

Susan Tol:

Lawson Insley was a daguerreotyptist that operated in Australia and New Zealand. He worked in portraiture and captured the earliest known portrait of Māori subjects.

There is little evidence of where Insley was born or where he lived before he arrived in Sydney in 1850. He set up a daguerreotype studio on George Street in September that year. Throughout the 1850s Insley travelled between Australia and New Zealand setting up various studios and offering his services in portraiture. His most significant portrait of Caroline and Sarah Barrett, daughters of Englishman Dicky Barrett and his wife Wakaiwa Rawinia, granddaughter of paramount Te Āti Awa chief Tautara, was taken in New Plymouth in 1853.

Batch dyeing

KIKI-191919: moved to main space

Batch Dyeing (Exhaust Dyeing) is a method of dyeing a textile material. The method involves the gradual transfer of dye from a dye bath to the textile material in the same piece of equipment. The various methods of batch dyeing result from the type of machine used in the dyeing process. Common machinery used in the batch dyeing process include the jigger dyeing machine, winch dyeing machine, jet dyeing machine and beam dyeing machine.

Principles of Batch Dyeing
The principle of batch dyeing is the migration of dye molecules from the dye solution into the piece of fabric. This is done until the fabric reaches full exhaustion, all within the same 'batch'. The time taken as well as the depth of colour achieved in the batch dyeing process is dependent upon the different control factors of the process. These influencing factors are typically the temperature of the dye liquor, the specific liquor ratio and the method of agitation used. The specific liquor ratio is the ratio between the weight of the fabric being dyed and the volume of the dye solution. The method of agitation depends on which batch dyeing machine is being used. There are three different forms of agitation used in batch dyeing. Method one is circulation of the fabric only. Method two is when the dye solution is circulated but the piece of fabric remains stationary. Lastly, method three involves both the fabric and the dye solution being circulated simultaneously to create agitation.

Machines
Jigger Dyeing Machine
The Jigger Dyeing Machine is a large closed dye vat with two main rollers located in the top half of the machine. The fabric is wound onto one roller and then fed onto the other. The dye liquor is located at the bottom of the dye vat below the two main rollers, it is specially designed to require a low liquor ratio. A number of smaller rollers are located through the dye liquor to guide the fabric through the solution. These are referred to as guide rollers. A steam heating coil is located at the base of the dye vat and is used to control the heating of the dye liquor. Having the dye vat closed also controls the temperature of the dye solution, keeping it a constant temperature at the top and bottom of the vat as no heat is lost to the outside atmosphere. To prevent the dripping of condensation created from the trapped steam, there are special steam coils located at the hood of the machine.

Winch Dyeing Machine
The Winch Dyeing Machine is a large dye vat that has a winch reel and a jockey roller located above the dye liquor in the top of the machine. The reel and roller aid in the movement of the fabric loop through the dye liquor. The winch reel controls how fast the fabric moves through the solution/ This aids in the circulation of the fabric loop through the dye liquor by hauling it out of the solution and over the roller. The jockey roller acts as a guide for the fabric, helping it move through the width of the solution. To achieve this stimulation, the jockey roller is free moving. . The winch machine also has a front compartment, that is seperate from the main dye vat. The front compartment is separated by a perforated partition and is the location where the dyestuff and dye auxiliaries are added to the dyeing process. To control the heat of dye liquor during this method, heating coils are positioned along the side of the front compartment.

Jet Dyeing Machine
The Jet Dyeing Machine is a large vat that has a closed tubular system called a venturi. Unlike the jigger and winch dyeing methods which use a reel system, the venturi guides the fabric. The venturi is where the jets pulsates the dye. The jet dyeing machine consists of a large dye tank that is connected to a heat chamber through pumps that filter and control the temperature of the dye solution. Another pressurised pump moves the dye from the heat chamber to the venturi. The fabric is then formed into a loop and moves through the dye chamber into the venturi. Next the fabric is moved around the venturi and the dye chamber by the pressurised dye solution. This movement is aided by a reel that helps guide the fabric into the venturi, however the jet system remains the dominant form of movement.

Beam Dyeing Machine
The Beam Dyeing Machine is a large dye vat that consists of a perforated beam that an open width of fabric is wound around. The perforated beam sits within the dye beam carrier. The machine consists of a number of high pressure pumps that transfer the dye liquor in and out of the machine. The dye liquor moves through the perforated holes in the beam into the high pressure beam carrier and then out through pumps located on the edge of the beam carrier.

Processes
Jigger Dyeing Process
The jigger dyeing machine is optimally used for the dyeing of woven fabrics. The jigger dyeing process involves the movement of fabric, while the dye liquor remains stationary. The dye bath is heated to boiling temperature through the steam heating coil with an atmosphere temperature of 98 degrees celsius. The jigger dye machine has a short specific liquor ratio due to its step less speed and tension monitoring that allows optimal exhaustion with less dye solution. Around four to five meters of fabric are wound onto a roller during the process. Fabric pieces can be sewn together 'head to tail' to reach this length. The fabric piece is then moved down from the wound roller, through the dye solution and back onto the other roll. The rollers can be reversed so that the process of unwinding and winding can be done multiple times until the dyeing process is complete. Once the process has finished the dye bath is cooled and the fabric is taken out and dried.

Winch Dyeing Process
The winch dyeing machine is optimally used for the dyeing of woolen fabrics. The winch dyeing process involves the movement of fabric, while the dye liquor remains stationary. The dye bath is heated through the heating coils within the front compartment to a maximum temperature of 95-98 degrees celsius. The winch dyeing process has a high specific liquor ratio of around 1:20 to 1:40. Once the dye liquor has been made in the front compartment, the dye solution will gradually move from the front compartment into the main dye vat. The fabric is made into a number of loops by sewing the ends together. These loops are equal in length. The fabric is looped over the two wheels that are located at the top of the dye vat. The fabric has very little tension and most of the loop is immersed in the dye solution. The loop of fabric is rotated through the solution by the pull of the winch roller. The winch roller controls the rate of transport of the fabric loop through the solution. The jockey roller is free moving and acts as a guide to move the fabric loop around the entire dye vat. The fabric continues to rotate through the dye solution until the full exhaustion has been achieved. As a result, the winch dyeing process can be lengthy in time. Once the process is finished the dye bath is cooled and the fabric is taken out and dried.

Jet Dyeing Process
The jet dyeing machine is optimally used for the dyeing of knit fabrics. The jet dyeing process involves the movement of fabric, as well as the movement of dye liquid. The dye bath is heated to extremely high temperatures with its maximum ranging around 135 to 140 degrees celsius. The jet dyeing machine use a low specific liquor ratio ranging from 1:5 to 1:15. The process involves making the fabric into a loop. This is done by sewing the ends together. The fabric is then moved slowly through the autoclave located inside the dye vat. The fabric is immersed in the dye solution which fills the vat. It is then lifted out of the vat by a free moving reel which guides the fabric into a jet that moves it through the venturi. The jet pushes the fabric back through the tube systems and into the other end of the dye vat where the process begins again. The jet creates turbulence within the dye liquor which helps with the exhaustion process. The fabric is exposed to a high concentration of dye liquor when it runs through the venturi tube systems. Therefore the main dye vat is usually only partially filled. The fabric repeats this loop until the fabric reaches full exhaustion and the colour is achieved, the speed of each circulation is around one to two minutes and the entire process will continue for around twenty to thirty minutes. Once the process has been completed the dye solution is cooled and the fabric is taken out and dried.

Beam Dyeing Process
The beam dyeing machine is optimally used for the dyeing of knit and woven fabrics. The beam dyeing process involves the movement of the dye solution, while the fabric remains stationary . The dye liquor is created using a low specific liquor ratio ranging around 1:5. The process requires a high temperature for the dye solution. The dye solution is heated to a maximum of 140 degrees celsius. An open width of fabric is first rolled onto the perforated beam. While the fabric is wound onto the perforated beam, a controlled tension is upheld to ensure that the fabric is not creased during the dyeing process. The perforated beams come in different sizes to accomodate different widths in the fabric. The beams range from 300mm to 1100mm. Once the fabric has been wound onto the beam, the beam is then loaded into the dye beam carrier. The dye beam carrier is then closed and the machine is pressurised. The dye solution is loaded and heated in the closed expansion tank. The dye liquor then travels through the pressurised pumps into the perforated beam. The pressurised pumps pushes the dye liquor through the perforated holes in the beam and the wound up fabric and into the dye beam carrier. The agitation on the dye liquor as it is pushed through the fabric ensures that the fabric absorbs the dye colour. Pumps located on the edge of the dye beam carrier work to pump the dye liquor out of the dye beam carrier and back around into the perforated beam. This then allows for the process to begin again. Once the process has been completed the dye solution is cooled and the fabric is taken out and dried.

Group malingering by proxy

Albert Falk:

Group Malingering by Proxy is a form of copycat malingering or fabrication or simulation of disease i.e. when many children or adults are coerced to act ill involving group dynamics with the purpose from the instigators to get gains like financial compensation, asylum or other benefits. It is often forced upon someone by a relative or a secondary person in order to gain financial or legal compensation. The form is categorized as abusive and maltreating and usually involves a caregiver who induces signs or symptoms in a child. There are similarities to Dr. Marc Feldman studies of Munchausen-syndrome which is the fabricated illness simulated by a person in order to receive financial benefits. The term "group malingering by proxy" was first used by Dr. Thomas Jackson in 2005 as part of the governmental investigation of the apathic children of Sweden. Micromobility

DavidLevinson: Created page.

Micromobility is a category of modes of transport that are provided by very light vehicles such as electric scooters, electric skateboards, shared bicycles and electric pedal assisted, pedelec, bicycles.

The primary condition for inclusion in the category is a gross vehicle weight of less than 500 kg. Additional conditions are the provision of a motor, primary utility use, and availability as a shared service.

History
The term invokes a transition similar to that of microcomputing where the miniaturization of transport modes for short journeys parallels the miniaturization of microcomputers for personal use. The term was coined by renowned business and technology analyst Horace Dediu, in a speech he delivered in 2017 at the Micromobility Summit in the Techfestival event in Copenhagen.

Characteristics
Implementations of micromobility in practice arose in the late 2010s as a solution to the 'last mile' of personal transportation, particularly in congested urban areas. Rather than use existing modes, a user would join a micromobility sharing network to be able to ride distances typically less than one mile. Early services specified locations, or docks, where vehicles needed to be picked up and left, but the second generation of sharing services employed a dockless model in which vehicles can be left anywhere or within a geo-fenced area. Micromobility has been instrumental in what is known as the unbundling of the automobile, or the availability of personal shared vehicles designed for short journeys.

While the vehicles had long been available for users to purchase, it was the servitization of these modes of transportation, allowing users to use the nearest micromobility vehicle without having to purchase, bring with them or secure safely when not in use, that led to the unprecedented growth of this practice in areas where it was available. This growth has reduced usage of personal automobiles and, in concert with the financial opportunities, has led to global automakers such as Ford and GM to invest in a variety of micromobility services.

Megacities in China were where dockless bike sharing first took off and although it began with traditional, non-electric, bicycles, it served as the template for what would be possible with electrically-powered and motorized scooters, skateboards and bicycles. The availability or relatively inexpensive batteries, displays and GPS receivers, enabled by the smartphone supply chains, provided easily accessible components for dockless services worldwide.

Popularity and reception
Considered the fastest adoption of technology, the speed of this diffusion has not come without growing pains. Some cities were caught off guard with the sudden influx of dockless vehicles, but in short order many cities had created a regulatory framework that would permit these services to more seamlessly integrate with existing transportation. As operators, users and municipalities have found an equilibrium and the benefits of micromobility have become apparent, other cities have begun to actively engage with operators in order to bring this mode of transport to their citizens.

Classification
Within the EU vehicle categorization micromobility vehicles fall under the L category, and are excluded from the M, N, O and higher categories.

Ad Revenue

Shay9732:

<!-- EDIT BELOW THIS LINE -->

Ad Revenue is a term that is used to describe the monetary income that individuals and businesses can earn from displaying paid advertisements on their website or surrounding their internet-based content. In September 2018, the U.S internet advertising market was estimated to be worth $111 billion with market share held mostly between the major technological enterprises of Google, Facebook, Amazon and Microsoft. These major enterprises make money themselves through online advertising but also have initiated pathways for individual users and influencers to earn an income. Some of the common pathways used by individuals and businesses to earn Ad Revenue include Google AdSense, YouTube monetisation or Facebook Ad Breaks.
<br />

Overview
There are a variety of methods and providers which individuals and online organisations can utilise in order to earn monetary income in the form of advertisements accompanying their website or digital media content. Digital technology giants such as Google, Facebook, YouTube, Amazon and Microsoft allow website owners and content creators to display advertisements within and surrounding their online media and also share in the income that is generated from the parties which pay to advertise on any given site. Individuals and organisations can earn a significant sum from Ad Revenue as paid to them by the major media sites. In 2018 it was reported that major YouTuber stars such as Jake Paul and Pew Die Pie each earned more than $10 million through monetising their online video content. Revenue earned by individuals and organisations from online advertisement sources is considered taxable in multiple countries. In 2015, the Australian Taxation Office confirmed questions regarding the tax status of online Ad Revenue stating that it was taxable and content creators should consider themselves to as a ‘performing artist’. Also, in the United States the Interval Revenue Service deems online Ad Revenue to be taxable. For those earning income from technology platforms controlled by Alphabet Inc. which includes Google and YouTube, a 1099 taxation form will be issued by the company if an individual or group earns more than $600 per year. The Ad Revenue industry is not without controversy. Ad Blocking technology has proven to be an issue for technology giants and individuals looking to earn money through displaying advertisements alongside their content. Ad Blocking software is reportedly used by 17% of people aged 18-34 and allows users to block advertisements from appearing on their screens whilst visiting a given website, thus removing the possibility that a user will click on a given advertisement and earn Ad Revenue for the other parties.
<br />
Notable Platforms
Google
Google is one of the largest online advertising platforms in the world, and as of March 2019 is estimated to facilitate more than 90% of global searches. Since October 2015, Google and it’s online advertising arms have existed under the structure of an American multinational holding company known as Alphabet Inc. Google cofounder Larry Page has stated that this move was made in order to allow Google and other Alphabet Inc. subsidiaries to operate more independently and efficiently. The company’s digital advertising revenue figures were approximated at around $39.92 billion U.S. in 2018 and between itself and other online giant Facebook, is reported to control just under 60% of the U.S online marketing space. A significant area of Google’s online advertising platform comes from their Google AdSense program which allows website owners to display Google driven advertisements on their site. As customers click on the embedded advertisements in a given website Google makes money from the advertising company, passing on 68% of that money to the person who owns the participating website, keeping 32% itself. As of January 2018, online advertising accounted for 84% of Alphabet Inc’s revenue. The advertising system they have created provides significant revenue for themselves but also for individual’s and smaller companies who are actively participating as partners in Google’s network.

YouTube
Another online advertising giant which falls under Alphabet Inc’s control is video sharing website YouTube. Google bought YouTube for $1.65 billion in 2006 and as of 2015 Bloomberg estimated it to be worth approximately $70 billion with an average daily visitor amount of over 30 million. YouTube allows content creators to share as well as monetise their own videos on the site and in certain cases will pay them a percentage of the advertising revenue received by the company for adverts which are placed within and around videos. The approximate share of advertising revenue paid to those making the monetised videos is reported to be 55% and in 2013 the average earnings of individual YouTube content creators was estimated to be $7.60 per thousand views.

Facebook
Facebook is also one of the largest online advertising platforms and as of March 2018 was estimated to hold a combined market share with Google of just under 60%. In the last quarter of 2018, Facebook stated that its online advertising revenue was $16.9 Billion U.S. Facebook allows businesses to advertise throughout its website, utilising its intimate knowledge of user demographics and interests to ensure that a given advertisement has a significant chance of reaching their specific target audience. As Facebook users click on the advertisements visible on their profile or timeline, Facebook charges the advertising company a fee, “cost per click”. Facebook also allows businesses to increase the visibility of their posts beyond those who follow or like them and charges a certain amount for given intervals of people the post reaches. In terms of how Facebook allows for businesses and individual users to make money themselves through advertising initiatives, ‘Facebook Ad Breaks’ allows users to earn revenue from advertisements that play during their own video content on the site. In 2012, Facebook purchased the image-sharing application known as Instagram. At the time of purchase Instagram had more than 30 million downloads and cost Facebook $1 billion to buy. As of 2019, Instagram has over 1 billion monthly active users and is estimated to be worth more than $100 billion. Within the application, Instagram allows individuals and businesses to advertise image and video content in front of potential customers within their target demographic. As well as targeting the appropriate demographic through its knowledge of those using the application, Instagram allows advertisers to direct potential customers through to outside websites, download content and to shop within online stores. Customers pay several dollars for every thousand users which see their advertisements and it is predicted that Instagram will earn more than $10 billion from this service annually as it moves through to the end of 2019. This revenue figure makes Instagram responsible for approximately 17% of its parent company, Facebook’s total online advertising income.

Amazon
As of 2018, Amazon was reported to be the 3rd largest online advertising platform and saw predicted advertising revenues sit at above $4 billion U.S. With a reported 197 million unique online visitors per month to their site, Amazon certainly has a large customer reach ability similar to the larger advertisers of Google and Facebook. Amazon does currently allow it’s users to pay to have their products made more visible on target customer’s screens and also allows for sellers to act as affiliates, being paid a commission of up to 15% for each time they refer someone who completes a purchase on the site for a certain product. As of May 2019, Amazon is attempting to expand its affiliate advertising program by initiating partnerships with other large online media agencies and heavily trafficked websites. === Bing-Microsoft ===

Issues
Tax Implications
Revenue earned by individuals and organisations as a result of participating in online advertising initiatives such as Google AdSense and YouTube Monetisation may face different income tax requirements based on location. In 2015 in Australia, the Australian Taxation Office outlined that anybody earning income from online advertising would be classed as a performing artist and be required to pay income tax. Under the Australian Taxation Office guidelines, a performing artist also includes other professions such as singers, dancers, or a similar person who is utilising their own intellectual or entertainment related skills. Specifically related to online advertising income, the Australian Taxation Office said that any income that an individual receives from online advertising is a reward for providing services based on their activities as a special professional and therefore can form part of the taxpayer’s assessable income. In the United States, the Internal Revenue Service also deems online advertising income to be taxable for individuals. For example, those in the United States earning Ad Revenue from technology platforms controlled by Alphabet Inc. will be issued a 1099 taxation form directly by the company if the income is more than $600 per year.

Ad Blocking
Ad Blocking refers to the use of various computer applications or programs to remove all online advertisements from appearing on your web browser. This technology has led to controversy as it means that content creators and website owners are unable to earn revenue from those customers who use Ad Blocking software. One Wall Street Journal survey found that 17% of users aged 18-34 used ad blocking technology and thus prevent any “pay-per-click” advertising, as used by the major platforms, to be utilised fully. Evidently, the growth of Ad Blocking technology could stunt the growth of online advertising revenues since if customers and web users cannot see the advertisement, they cannot interact with it and no earnings can be made from it. However, there has been some support for ad blocking software from major technology companies such as Google. In 2018, Google announced that it would be launching ad blocking type software within its Chrome application aimed at targeting websites or advertisements that are designed to disrupt customer experience and do not allow for customers to dismiss them before a certain time has elapsed. It is reported that after Google notified potentially impacted websites of the changes, approximately 42% made pre-emptive changes to ensure that they were not found non-compliant with the new advertising user guidelines. Under the current protocol, any site that is in breach of Google’s user guidelines will be contacted and given 30 days to resolve the advertising issues before further action is taken. Google has announced that their ad blocking technology will be available to customers who use their search engine without the need for downloading third party applications or installing any external software.

Somali Literacy Campaign

CAPTAIN RAJU: Added tag to article (Using Twinkle)

==Somali Literacy Campaign== or Af Somali "Ol Olaha Horumarinta Akhris iyo Qorista" was a nationally enforced national literacy campaign which took place in Somalia from 1974-1975. The literacy campaign was undertaken to improve the socioeconomic and development of the country.. The grace period of six months from January to June 1972 was given otherwise non-literate government workers would lose their jobs. It was further decided that all official documents in government offices would feature Shire's Latin script.

New Af Somali Alphabet Came Af Somali Literacy Campaign
A campaign named after Somali Rural Literacy Campaign was initiated zfter the Somali national script was introduced, the government undertook a massive literacy campaign in villages and rural settlements across the country from 1974 to 1975. This effort was termed in the Somali language Ol Olaha Waxbarashada Reer Miyiga or Somali Countryside Literacy Campaign. The national campaign was carried out by young people, mostly elementary school teachers as well as high school students and those educated government workers and military personal. This was a relatively easy undertaking as there was now an alphabet to teach and learn. The campaign was nicknamed "Teach or Learn" or Af Somali: Bar ama barro. Meaning, teach if you know or learn if don't know.

Many consider the initial introduction of Shire's Somali orthography and the subsequent literacy campaign to be one of the most significant achievements in Somalia's post-colonial administration. A huge debate was ongoing as to what script to use; Arabic or Latin. Arabic was relatively easy for Somalia children as it was the medium script for Koranic studies and almost every child in villages and towns knew how to write Arabic script.

What Scrip to Use for Af Somali: Arabic or Latin?
The government settled on Latin for many reasons including available machinery and tools versus the economic cost of introducing new equipment to transcribe new Af Somali script. Because of this vital decision, decades later, Somali immigrants around the globe are having better luck in learning new languages compared to people coming from countries which use non-Latin writing scripts.

Elsewhere in Africa, people took note of Somalia's progress in educating the masses in terms of literacy. Julius Nyerere, then Tanzania's president, asserted that "the Somalis are practicing what we in Tanzania preach."

Hermann Stoll

Girth Summit: /* top */ tweaks

Hermann Stoll (* June 13 1904 in Eschenau; † December 10 1944) was a German geologist and prehistorian.

Stoll, who comes from a Swabian pastor's family and grew up near Herrenberg in Kayh from the age of 13, studied geology in Tübingen and Stuttgart and received his doctorate in Tübingen in 1927 for his thesis entitled "Versuch einer stratigraphischen Gliederung des Stubensandstein im westlichen Württemberg".
From 1929, Stoll was assistant to Robert Rudolf Schmidt at the Prehistoric Research Institute in Tübingen. During this time he devoted himself intensively to the settlement history of the Upper Gäu, where he carried out several excavations in addition to field surveys. The work "Prehistory of the Upper Gäus", published in 1932, is regarded as groundbreaking for modern settlement archaeology, as Stoll's main interest was the connections between settlement and natural conditions. During his time in Tübingen he continued the research begun by Hans Reinerth on the prehistoric hilltop settlement on the Kirchberg near Reusten and excavated the Alamannic cemetery of Hailfingen, which he published in 1939.
In 1934 Stoll came to the Rheinische Landesmuseum Bonn. He compiled the so-called Franconian Catalogue and carried out excavations in the Colonia Ulpia Traiana near Xanten and in the Franconian settlement of Gladbach near Neuwied.
Since the beginning of 1938 Stoll was assistant of the Baden monument preservation for prehistory and early history in Freiburg im Breisgau under Georg Kraft via the University of Freiburg. From here he carried out various excavations, especially in Merovingian cemeteries (Lienheim, Grimmelshofen, Freiburg-St. Georgen).
In 1939 Stoll began excavations in the Alamannic cemetery of Grimmelshofen, which were continued by Ruprecht Gießler in August after his convocation.

During the Second World War Stoll was employed by the Luftnachrichtentruppe in Silesia, where he carried out further archaeological research. He last served in Romania and died after a war injury in December 1944 in Soviet captivity.

Stoll's archaeological work was particularly noted in the field of early history. From his settlement archaeological interests he formulated questions which are still regarded as innovative and influential in the field. Concessions to nationalist ideas and corresponding terminology, which had prevailed in the Tübingen Institute since the 1920s, are conspicuously rare in Stoll's work. Stoll asked about the relationship between cemetery and settlement, the forms of settlement in the Merovingian period and the population figures. Stoll worked intensively on an interdisciplinary approach and a discussion with the history of the country.
