Professor Dr. Shireen Akhter is a Bangladeshi academic. She has been made the pro-vice chancellor (Pro VC) of Chittagong University (CU).<ref>Liquid error: wrong number of arguments (1 for 2)</ref> The newly appointed Pro VC took her office at the university on Monday, said a university press release.“She was appointed as Pro VC of CU by honorable chancellor for next four years under University Act 1973 14(1)”, stated the release.

Dr. Shireen Akhter joined the university as a lecturer of Bangla Department in 1996 after completing her PhD from Jadavpur University in India. On her appointment, Shirin told bdnews24.com that she would try to develop [[University of Chittagong|Chittagong University]] as a "source of vast knowledge" in according with the spirit of the Liberation War.<ref></ref>

Dr. Shireen Akhter  was born at Eid Gao in Cox's Bazar in 1956.<ref> The Asian Age Online, Bangladesh|last=bureau|first=Chittagong|website=The Asian Age|language=en|access-date=2019-01-07}}</ref> Her father was Afsar Kamal Chowdhury and mother was Begum Lutfunnahar Kamal. Her husband is Latiful Alam Chowdhury. He is mother of one son and one daughter. Dr. Shireen Akhter expressed her gratitude to all and sought co-operation from all while discharging her duty as Pro-VC. Dr. Shireen is also a  life member of Bangle Academy. She is involve with various social activities. She visited a number of  countries including India, America, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and United Arab Emirates (UAE).
